Use your data expertise to support better care, planning and improvement.
Birmingham Hospice is looking for a Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Lead to shape, build and support our data and reporting platform. You’ll help colleagues turn clinical, operational, finance, fundraising, retail and people data into reliable information they can use with confidence.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, taking work from initial requirements through to delivery and ongoing support. You’ll develop secure data pipelines, reusable data models and accessible Power BI dashboards, replacing fragmented reporting with consistent measures and maintainable solutions.
Working with service leaders, data owners, analysts and Technology colleagues, you’ll turn practical questions into useful reports and insights. You’ll set engineering and reporting standards, strengthen data quality and governance, and keep the platform reliable through testing, monitoring and support. You’ll also coach colleagues and help teams use data more confidently.
We’re looking for someone with:
– Substantial experience delivering and supporting production BI and cloud data platforms
– Strong Microsoft Fabric knowledge and Power BI expertise, including DAX, semantic modelling, security and performance
– Strong SQL and data-modelling skills, with working knowledge of Python and/or PySpark
– Experience of data integration, governance, quality controls, source control, testing and deployment
– The ability to explain technical issues clearly, work collaboratively and develop colleagues’ skills
Experience in a hospice, charity, healthcare or another regulated setting would be welcome. You’ll have a relevant degree or equivalent substantial professional experience.
Our values are Kindness, Togetherness, Positivity, Openness, Respect and Innovation. We’re looking for someone who brings these values to their work and handles sensitive information with care and integrity.
If you would like to find out more about the role, please email Leon Claraway, Head of Data and Technology on leon.claraway@birminghamhospice.org.uk

Sally, People Team Manager at Birmingham Hospice, has worked here for seven years.
“I love my job as it’s very varied – one day I can be meeting our new starters at our induction day, another day I can be supporting a wellbeing event and then on another day I can be testing our HR and Payroll system as part of an upgrade. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.
“The team and colleagues are all very supportive and we really see the difference we can make in the People Team to our colleagues, volunteers and the patients we support.”
The hospice is committed to developing a dynamic and diverse team, representative of the communities it serves. We ask you, therefore, to complete the Equal Opportunities monitoring form to help us in this aim.
We value each person as an individual – whether they are colleagues, patients, family members, carers or supporters, every person matters. We embrace diversity of culture, background and environment knowing it enriches our workplace and our relationships with our local communities. We are committed to building a culture of inclusion and belonging. We would love to hear from you, about what makes you uniquely you and how this opportunity will support you to succeed.
Our values are at the heart of everything we do as we continue in our mission to enable more people from all communities to access the care of their choice at the end of life.
