Are you a Band 6 Nurse looking for a new challenge?

At Birmingham Hospice, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. From our Inpatient Units to our Living Well Centres and bereavement counselling services, we are here for our community when they need us most.

We are excited to launch our new 24/7 Specialist Palliative Urgent Response (SPUR) service, operating 24/7 with both day and night shifts available. This service will respond to urgent palliative care needs from patients, families, and professionals across Birmingham and Solihull.

As a Clinical Specialist, you will work autonomously and collaboratively to respond to urgent calls within a two-hour timeframe. You will provide face-to-face clinical assessments and interventions in patients’ homes, initiate referrals as appropriate and maintain accurate clinical records in line with legislation. The role also includes supporting patients with prescribed and over-the-counter medications.

What we’re looking for:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) qualification (e.g. RGN)
  • Healthcare degree or working towards one
  • European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Significant post-registration experience in palliative and end-of-life care
  • Sensitivity to the changing physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients and their families

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to be part of a compassionate and forward-thinking charity
  • Generous benefits package
  • Recognition of continuous service for NHS hospice staff (including pension and annual leave entitlements)

“After I saw the care my dad received at the hospice, I knew I wanted to work there.”

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.

Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
