Catering Manager

Make a Real Difference Through Exceptional Food and Compassionate Leadership

Salary: circa £37,000
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility required (earliest start 7am, latest finish 7pm; 5‑day rotation, generally Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend work)
Location: Multi‑site role across Erdington and Selly Park
Closing Date: 12 February 2026

We are seeking an experienced Catering Manager who is not only a talented chef and accomplished leader, but someone who puts the needs of our patients and their families at the heart of everything they do.

Food plays an essential role in comfort, dignity, and wellbeing. In this role, you will shape a unified and high‑quality catering service across both of our hospice sites, ensuring that every meal our talented chefs and their team prepare is fresh, nutritious, safe, meets the patient’s requirements and is delivered with care.

As a key member of our Hospitality Team, you will oversee the planning, production, service delivery, and continuous improvement of our catering provision – ensuring compliance with food safety standards, allergen requirements, team training, and robust safety practices.

What We’re Looking For

You will be an inspiring and compassionate leader with the ability to blend culinary expertise with operational excellence. You must have:

  • Proven experience managing budgets, costing, income, and expenditure
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including some weekends and holidays
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time‑management skills
  • Experience conducting audits and ensuring compliance
  • Proven line management experience to lead, motivate, and develop your team
  • Minimum Level 3 Food Hygiene certification
  • A positive, professional, and people‑focused attitude

Most importantly, you will bring empathy, professionalism and a commitment to creating a catering experience that supports the wellbeing of people receiving hospice care and their loved ones.

What We Offer

In return, we provide:

  • A competitive salary and supportive working environment
  • Opportunities for training and professional development
  • The ability to influence and enhance a cherished community service

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a valued charity and help shape the future of our catering service. We are passionate about people development and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.

“After I saw the care my dad received at the hospice, I knew I wanted to work there.”

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.

Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
