Location: Erdington and Selly Park hospice sites

Hours: 28.5 per week (two days Erdington site and one day Selly Park site per week to include a Saturday or Sunday and bank holidays when required)

Salary: £15,931 to £18,561 per annum (£26,522 – £30,935 full time equivalent)

DBS Requirement: Enhanced Check

We are currently seeking a talented and compassionate Chef to join our team on a part-time basis. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference by preparing and delivering high-quality, freshly made meals that support the wellbeing of our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences.
  • Support patients’ nutritional and hydration requirements with sensitivity and care.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety at all times.
  • Collaborate with the wider care team to ensure meals contribute positively to patient care.

About you:

You’ll be an experienced and organised chef with:

  • Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate or City and Guilds Level 2 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent).
  • A passion for cooking and a genuine desire to support others.
  • Flexibility to work weekend shiftsbank holidays, and cover additional shifts when needed.

“After I saw the care my dad received at the hospice, I knew I wanted to work there.”

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.

Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
