Terry Hale was a much-loved husband and father to wife Katie and daughter Charlotte. He loved mountain biking, scootering and used to play for Birmingham Bulls American Football team.
“Terry was one of those people who once you met him, you would never forget him. He was the life and soul of the party,” said Katie.
However, in 2020, the whole family’s life was turned upside down when Terry, who was only 60 years-old, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) and given between three and five years to live.

But without your donations, we simply wouldn’t be here for people like Terry.
Louise started at the hospice more than 20 years ago and has always been passionate about providing expert palliative care.
“My role allows me to provide specialist palliative care to our patients, whether that’s in the community or in the Inpatient
Units, and it’s a very rewarding job.
“The hospice teams helped me care for my father-in-law at home just before Christmas. I’ve always known that the care the hospice teams give is very special but when you experience it from the other side, you really see just how special it is.”
Jas has worked at Birmingham Hospice for six years in the Inpatient Unit, and says hospice care is often misunderstood.
“Being able to provide 24-hour care means our teams can properly treat the patient and allow family members and loved ones to concentrate on creating special memories during the precious time they have left.
“Whether it’s a quiet moment holding hands and listening to music together, a shared story, or a final hug, these memories are priceless. And with your support, we can help create them.”
Andy says its always been an honour working at the hospice in his role as you get to go on a journey with the patient.
“Having worked at the hospice for more than 20 years in my capacity as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), I’ve been welcomed into many people’s homes and met incredible patients, family members and loved ones.
“Being able to provide bespoke,
compassionate and individual care for local people living with a life-limiting illness means I can really dedicate my time to getting things right for the patient.”
Helen says her role is unlike any previous nursing role she’s done before – helping provide social, wellbeing and emotional support to patients in our Living Well Centre.
“Something special that I’ve seen over my three years working at the hospice, is the inspiring dreams and wishes written down on our ‘Before I die…’ board by patients.
“From passing their driving test to
seeing their grandson perform on stage and even hoping to visit the Great Wall of China, they are all unique to each person who attends the Living Well Centre.”
The cost of delivering our expert care is only increasing each year as everyone feels the strain of the rising cost of living.
