Support Us Volunteer with us Support@Home Volunteer Support@Home Volunteer Reports To: Head of Family and Carer Support Team / Support@Home Lead Location: In the patient’s home Hours: Flexible – generally 2-6 hours per week Making a Difference: to provide a home support service for patients of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice. The help given by a ‘Support@Home’ volunteer will mean a great deal to patients and their families and carers who are finding it hard to cope. Your help as a volunteer could help improve the quality of their lives at what is a very difficult time Key Duties: You will… Provide support for the patient in coping with the effects of their illness and how it impacts on their day to day life. Support isolated patients and where appropriate offer a ‘sitting service’ to provide respite so that carers can go out or complete tasks. Help if requested with setting up appropriate services (meals delivery services, domestic help, gardening help, prescription delivery service etc.) Accompany patients to appointments or outings where desirable/ necessary. Help to contact services and organisations for information and advice where appropriate. Support patients’ families/ carers for a limited period after the person has died. Will the role suit me? YES, if you are… Someone with good listening and communication skills. Able to understand the effects of a patient’s illness and how it impacts on them and their families/carers.
