‘A future where the best experience of living is available to everyone leading up to and at the end of life’

At Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice we have embarked on an ambitious and innovative programme of service redesign to enable us to reach more individuals and their families, carers and loved ones than ever before.

We believe hospice care can be delivered in any setting. Whether directly by Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, through the health and social care professionals we educate or by organisations we work in partnership with such as prisons, care homes, hospitals and general practices. To ensure the best hospice care is available for all individuals, families and carers and loved ones across our community, wherever and whenever they need it.

To support our ambitious plans, we are looking for an exceptional individual to take on the new role of Relief Assistant Shop Manager covering absences and supporting shop teams at any of our shops in Birmingham and Sandwell.

Birmingham St Mary’s retail operation is a community based shopping experience with 16 successful shops in our portfolio. Our shops are of the highest standard and are vibrant, innovative and value for money. We have a commitment to growth and there is no ceiling to our ambition.

You will be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day management of any Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice retail shop in the absence of any of the Shop Managers, as directed by the District Retail Manager or the District Support Manager.

Flexibility and the ability to travel to any of our shops is essential in this new role. You will provide cover to shops and assist the Retail District Manager to ensure that our stores are effectively staffed by covering sick leave, annual leave and supporting staff absence, sometimes at short notice. Travel expenses will be paid in accordance with the Hospice expenses policy.

Reporting to the District Retail Manager and directly responsible for the business during absences, the purpose of the Relief Assistant Shop Manager is to maximise shop income by managing day to day operations at the highest standard and providing excellent customer service to both donors and customers. You will play a vital role in developing and recruiting exceptional Shop teams of volunteers, enabling them to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Birmingham St. Mary's Hospice work.

You will have previously demonstrated your ability to recruit, motivate and support teams of volunteers.

The successful candidate will be passionate, energetic and outgoing, and motivated by our mission and ambition ‘Hospice care for all’.
