Bogus door-to-door collections alert

29 July 2020

We have been informed that someone claiming to be fundraising for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and using one of our collection tins, has been knocking on people’s doors in some areas of south Birmingham asking for donations to the Hospice. They have also asked for people’s bank details. Please be aware this person is NOT one of our fundraisers. We reported these incidents to West Midlands Police immediately and they are now conducting an investigation.

We are shocked and saddened by these events and are very grateful to the public for making us aware of them. We would like to reassure people that we never carry out door-to-door fundraising and never ask people for their bank details. All our fundraising activities comply with the Charity Commission’s code of practice who have also been informed of these reports.

If you receive a cold call to your door by someone claiming to be collecting donations for the Hospice, please report this to the police as soon as you can.
