Birmingham Hospice is excited to announce the opening of a brand new superstore in Harborne this year. There are a number of volunteering roles up for grabs at this new concept shop and we’re looking for people to join our fantastic team.
If you’re looking to upgrade your CV, want to learn new skills like how to work on a till or become more confident with customers, we have a variety of roles coming up – we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch with us for more information.
Some of our exciting new roles include:
Book Expert
Are you a book worm? A Bibliophile? Do you love to pick up the latest paperbacks and keep up to date with bestseller lists? If the answer is yes, we would love for you to join us!
We are looking for passionate Book Experts to sort and assess our fantastic donations, price them ready for sale and display them on the shop floor for customers to see. We also sell items online so if you are computer literate that’s a bonus. You will also help to research special edition/signed/first edition books.
You will have the ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
Media/Vinyl Specialist
Do you know who Elvis was? Have you heard of Led Zeppelin? Can you sing along to the Spice Girls?
If you answered yes, we need your help as a Media/Vinyl Specialist.
The role includes sorting through our media donations and pricing ready for sale; researching valuable items to enable us to get the best price for charity, displaying media on the shop floor, rotating regularly; speaking with customers to make them feel welcome.
Visual Merchandiser
Do you have a passion for fashion and a flair for all things fabulous?
We’re looking for creative window dressers to help promote our fantastic donations.
The role will help you gain confidence and make new friends, you will also have the feeling of achievement when something is sold from your display. You will receive a reference to go towards your CV.
Till Assistant
Are you friendly, like to meet new people and can keep calm under pressure?
You will be the first person our customers meet when they come through our shop door.
The role will help you build on your confidence in the retail sector, and you will receive a reference towards your CV.
Sorting Assistant
Do you have an eye for identifying great products, whether it be fashion or bric-a-brac?
We are looking for someone to process our donations. We receive donations every day so need to have a routine in place to sort, hang and attach price tickets.
Do you like a structured routine, finding that hidden treasure? If yes, we need you.
Seamstress/Tailor
Are you thrifty, good with a needle and thread? Have you the know-how to jazz up a dull jacket? Put patches on jeans or make bunting from recycled shirts? Even make shopping bags from a pre-loved dress?
Once our donations have been sorted, some items need extra TLC or even the chance to be made into something else to help raise money.
Could you spare a couple of hours a week to support your local hospice charity?
You will be good with a needle and thread or sewing machine, making ideas come to life, have an eye for creating fashion and will be passionate about stopping unwanted items going to landfill.
Shop Floor Assistant
Do you enjoy meeting people and keeping things neat and tidy?
If the answer is yes, we would love to hear you.
Shop Floor Assistants will welcome our customers and help keep our shop looking tidy and inviting.
This is a great way to get hands-on retail experience in a friendly environment where you can learn new skills and make friends.
