In October 2012 our family was hit with the news that our beloved Nan, Barbara Meakin had Esophagus Cancer. By November our worst fears were confirmed and Nan was given a terminal diagnosis.

St Marys Hospice quickly got in touch with Nan and offered her all the support she needed and when the decision was made to nurse Nan at home the Community Care Team gave us as a family essential support, treating Nan with dignity and respect.

In February Nan had taken a turn for the worse and we were unable to offer the pain relief she required and she was admitted to the Hospice where she spent her remaining weeks surrounded by family and truly amazing staff.

I hope and pray you never have cause to use St Mary's but their work has to continue because we couldn't have kept Nan at home as long as we did without the Community Palliative Care Team, and Nan had a peaceful and dignified end, a memory that we hold on to.

Thank you for your support and for helping us to honour a wonderful person.
