I am the deputy manager at the Bristol Pear Pub (formerly The Station) in Selly Oak. I am hosting a live music extravaganza on Friday 27th September 2013 to help raise £1000 or more for St Marys hospice. The night of live entertainment will include a live performance from high flying local music outfit Tempting Rosie plus support as well as Soul and Funk music from our DJ with a sponsored Man vs Food challenge. I want to give something back to the local community and with St Marys being in close proximity to me it was a very easy decision. I meet a lot of local people on a daily basis with many of them having had some sort of experience with the hospice or know someone who has. It is such a difficult time for all those involved when a loved one has terminal illness but the staff at the hospice do such a fantastic job in helping everyone get through this with such dignity that they surely should be commended. This service is a vital aspect of the Selly Oak and Bournville community that it should be recognised for all of the people that it helps. I want all those in my local community to get behind this fundraising event so that more people are aware of the work that St Marys does and to support this iconic community landmark for many years to come.
