European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care This eight-week distance learning multi-professional programme is aimed at those working in clinical practice who are new to palliative care or who look after people who have palliative care needs. The course is divided into sections, each covering different aspects of essential palliative care. The programme is divided into sections, each dealing with one area of essential palliative care: What is palliative care? Who is palliative care for? Symptom issues in palliative care Patients with emergency conditions Patients in the last 48 hours of life Breaking bad news to patients and families Bereavement and support Common ethical issues Candidates are required to complete a case study portfolio, a written examination, key competency and practical at the end of the course. The course takes place at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, Selly Park.
