Challenge Events Project Intern (voluntary)

Responsible to: Events Manager

Location: Based in our Selly Park office 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Friday)

Hours / days:   3 days per week to suit successful candidate –from September 2017 to June 2018

This internship provides a fantastic opportunity for those wishing to move into the fundraising, events management and marketing sector in their future career. As the Challenge Events Project Intern, you will be conducting research into the challenge events sector, looking for new third-party event opportunities and marketing these opportunities to the Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice supporter base and within the local community.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice currently promotes a number of challenge and third-party events throughout the year. They provide a vital source of income for the Hospice and as such this is an area we would like to expand. It is important that we are offering events and challenges that meet the demographic of our supporters and that our supporters are fully aware of how they can be involved. This project will enable the events team to fully understand the range of opportunities available and will provide much needed support in the marketing of these opportunities within the community.

You will get involved in all aspects of the above project, gaining valuable experience of the charity/fundraising sector, events management and marketing.

Key Duties      

You will…

  •  Research the challenge events sector and provide recommendations for future activities
  •  Research third-party events that offer charity places and provide recommendations for future    investments
  •  Assist with promotion of third party events in the local community
  •  Support the events team with promotion and administration of all Hospice-own challenge events
  •  Attend all Hospice-own and third-party events to provide event management support (requires weekend and evenings)
  •  Design and finalise resources for promotional activities
  •  Attend community events to promote the activities including supermarket promotions, city centre flyering and PR stunts
  •  Assist with other community based promotional activities
  •  Produce participant materials to support their fundraising activities

  • Knowledge of MS Office – especially Word and Excel
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Respectful of diversity
  • Past experience in fundraising, marketing or events management is desirable
  • Full clean driving license and access to a vehicle is desirable (please state on application)
