This April, we’re continuing our march for hospice care, giving you the chance to keep fit, keep active and keep vital services running.

The truth is, we’ve never needed your support more. That’s why we’re asking you to take on the 40 Mile March and #UniteForHospiceCare, to help raise the critical funds needed to support people living with life-limiting illness.

Right now, at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, our doctors, nurses and frontline staff are working hard to provide essential care to people and their families – both in their own homes and at the Hospice.

Not only are we caring for our patients, but we’re doing all we can to support GPs, District Nurses and the NHS, to ensure more people can receive care when our health services are under huge pressures.

But heartbreakingly, at a time when people desperately need our services, we’re losing out on crucial funds. We’ve had to postpone fundraising events, community activities and corporate partnerships, as well as temporarily close the doors of all 17 of our charity shops. But our care hasn’t stopped.

So that’s why we need your help more than ever before. Whether you’re extending your challenge from March or joining us afresh in April, please know that every step you take and every pound you raise will help more people living with life-limiting illness to receive the care they deserve.

Taking part in the 40 Mile March is simple; all you need to do is walk a total of 40 miles across the month of April. You can walk anywhere, at any time and at any pace – and it’s a great way to boost your physical and mental wellbeing during these uncertain times.

We know it’s harder than ever to get out-and-about in a responsible way, but you could consider:

  • Ditching the park and taking a walk around your neighbourhood instead. But please keep in mind safe social distancing, which is currently 2 metres away from others. And only walk with member of your own household.
  • Walking during off-peak hours. Some of you may be working from home, so why not go for a mid-morning power walk to boost your energy levels? Again, just remember to keep a safe distance from others.
  • Loading up YouTube and enjoying an online fitness class from the comfort of your living room. It’s not technically walking but if you clock up 2,000 steps during a class, you’ll have walked the equivalent of 1 mile.
  • Involving the kids! Run round the garden or play hide and seek – whatever you choose, it’s a fun way to keep the children entertained and help notch up your distance.

Although there isn’t a minimum sponsorship amount, it is your sponsorship money that makes the difference to our patients and families.

  • Hit £40 sponsorship and receive a branded tote bag.
  • Be a superstar and raise over £50 and receive a branded tote bag and a hot pink water bottle.

We know it’s going to take an army of supporters to champion hospice right now, which is why we’re asking you to #UniteForHospiceCare and join the march today.
