Birmingham Hospice is the leading provider of adult palliative care in the region. We care for people in their own homes, in the community,  at our Living Well Centres and in our Inpatient Units. We have Living Well Centres at both our Selly Park and Erdington sites, which support our patients to live well with their illness. They provide the opportunity for our patients and their families/carers to explore aims, goals and wishes for the future.

As a staff nurse you will assist the Living Well Centre (LWC) management team to provide excellent care, advice and support to a range of patients with life limiting illnesses, and their loved ones/carers.

You will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate the care needs of our patients, both within our Living Well Centres and in the community settings, working alongside a multidisciplinary care team.

You will be required to provide cover for the Lead Nurse, managing the caseload in their absence, as well as support with managing/supervising staff and volunteers.

For an informal chat, please contact Julie Bennett on julie.bennett@birminghamhospice.org.uk.

"I don’t think of what I do as a job; I consider it a privilege to be here."

Kate Miley, a Healthcare Assistant, has first-hand experience of the care and support the hospice provides after it helped her family through some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Her husband Kevin was cared for by the hospice when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer two years ago, during the Covid pandemic. He died after a short illness.

The couple had been together for 28 years and have three children. As a devoted family man, Kevin was determined to be cared for at home as much as possible, which he was able to do with the support of the hospice.

She said: “I want to be able to use my experience to support patients and families here. Having been through it, I feel I’ve got a better understanding of what people are going through and the kind of crisis situation you feel you’re in a lot of the time.
