Chocolate lovers in the Black Country are in for a sweet treat as the ‘Chocolate 5k’ comes to Sandwell for the first time.

Taking place in Sandwell Valley Country Park – in the heart of the West Midlands, the tasty fun run on Sunday 3rd July 2016 gives participants the opportunity to burn off the calories whilst indulging in chocolate treats along the way.

Following a 5k route around the picturesque Sandwell Valley Country Park, runners will approach chocolate stations offering a variety of treats and plenty of water to keep you hydrated. Victory is, of course, sweet and upon finishing; runners will receive a chocolate medal and Chocolate 5k goody bag as well as gain free entry into the post-run chocolate buffet.

The unique event hopes to raise vital funds for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, which provides free care and support for terminally ill patients and their families across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Just over 470 runners took on the popular chocolate challenge in Bournville earlier this year and the Hospice is hoping Sandwell can take on the challenge too.

Lucy Watkins, Events Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice said: “The Chocolate 5k is a perfect event for families or those with a sweet tooth. It’s a fun way to support your local hospice and every penny raised from the charity run will make a massive difference to those who really need our help. We’ve had a great response so far but we would love to welcome as many runners as possible to our first Chocolate 5k in Sandwell!”

There isn’t a minimum sponsorship amount but participants are encouraged to raise as much as they can. Just £25 of sponsorship money pays for a Hospice at Home nurse for an hour with £155 paying for a Community nurse to visit a patient at home in your local community.

Runners can arrive for the event from 9.30am for enrolment with the chase for chocolate starting at 11.00am. Locals are welcome to come along on the day to cheer on chocolate lovers and get their teeth stuck into the activities on offer.

Full details of the tasty event and registration fees can be found on the website www.birminghamhospice.org.uk or by calling the fundraising team on 0121 472 1191.
